20 October 2016 – Jalon Valley Circular

At last the Thursday Explorers managed to meet for the first walk since the summer break.   Since our last walk we have gained eighteen new members, nine of whom joined us for the first time today.
We had to cancel last week’s walk due to heavy rain, and were not happy when the forecast for this week also promised heavy rain.   We did not want to cancel again, so we arranged to meet in Lliber and decide what to do then.

We had planned a walk to Senija, via The Cross.  However with constant heavy rain forecast we decided to change to a walk around the Jalon Valley, where we could quickly make for the nearest village should the rain arrive.

The plan was to walk to Jalon, then on to Alcalali and if the weather held on to Parcent.   It was still dry when we reached Jalon, and we set off for Alcalali.   The drizzle started when we had our first water stop.
I really did not want everyone to get soaked on their first walk with the group, so we decided to make for the Ermita near Alcalali and an early lunch.
Lucky we did because the rain continued.    Fortunately we had good cover, and even seats.   Not the best of views, but better than a huddle under the trees.

A few hardy souls opted for the picnic site, and to be honest the rain was only a very light shower.
We managed to complete the walk without having to unpack our waterproofs, and enjoyed an after walk drink in Lliber square.   Despite the weather we managed a respectable 14km and had a very enjoyable walk.    We were home and dry when the promised heavy rain arrived later in the afternoon.
