All Saints Church Rothbury
Spent
two weeks in the UK for the Christening of Chloe, our youngest granddaughter. Unfortunately I forgot our camera, so had to
rely on Stuart and online photos to illustrate the blog!
Rothbury, Northumberland
We
were very fortunate with the weather, and particularly on Sunday 5 June when
the Christening was held in the village church. It is a short walk to the church and was
very pleasant in the sunshine. Unlike
when Georgia was Christened and Stuart had to ferry us all to and fro in his car
because of the heavy rain.
Coquetdale, Northumberland
Rothbury
is in Coquetdale, a popular walking and holiday area just north of
Newcastle. The valley is named after the
river which runs through it. At this
time of year it looks particularly attractive and over the Bank Holiday was quite
crowded with visitors and day trippers.
Rothbury from Craigside
There
are lots of walks in the area, including a gentle two hour walk along the river
on an all weather path. We walked this
most days, ending with a visit to one of the many pubs or cafés in the village.
Rothbury from Simonside
In
addition there are two “proper” walks, both of which start from the house. The shorter is Cragside which is the hill
behind the house and takes about three hours.
The longer is Simonside on the far side of the river and that one took
five hours.
Lovely
holiday and great to see the family. The
weather, though changeable, allowed us to see the area at its best when the sun
did shine. Also reminded us what a very
pleasant place the UK can be when the weather is good.
